LIFE SKILLS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Life Skills is a holistic and learner-centred course designed to equip learners with the knowledge, values, attitudes, and practical skills needed to lead healthy, responsible, and productive lives. Aligned with the South African Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), the course promotes the intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and creative development of learners.
The course integrates Personal and Social Well-being, Creative Arts, Physical Education, and Beginning Knowledge (Foundation Phase), enabling learners to develop confidence, resilience, effective communication, and positive interpersonal relationships. Learners explore topics such as health and safety, personal development, citizenship, environmental awareness, cultural diversity, creative expression, physical fitness, and responsible decision-making through engaging and practical activities.
Life Skills encourages learners to become active, ethical, and responsible members of their families, schools, and communities while fostering lifelong habits that support personal well-being and academic success.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will have acquired the knowledge, skills, values, and competencies prescribed by the South African Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for Life Skills.
Learners will be well prepared for school-based assessments and for continued personal, social, and academic development. A Certificate of Course Completion may be awarded by the learning institution to learners who successfully complete the prescribed learning programme.
