COURSE DESCRIPTION
Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) is an engaging and practical course that introduces learners to the principles of business, economics, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and management. Aligned with the South African Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), the course provides learners with the knowledge and skills needed to understand how individuals, businesses, and economies operate in a rapidly changing world.
Throughout the course, learners explore topics such as the economic cycle, markets, the role of government, entrepreneurship, business planning, accounting principles, budgeting, savings, investment, and ethical business practices. Real-world examples and practical activities help learners develop critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and financial management skills that are essential for personal and future career success.
The course also encourages innovation, responsible citizenship, and an entrepreneurial mindset by enabling learners to identify opportunities, manage resources effectively, and understand the impact of economic decisions on individuals, communities, and the broader economy.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will have acquired the knowledge, skills, and competencies prescribed by the South African CAPS curriculum for Economic and Management Sciences.
Learners will be well prepared for school-based assessments, examinations, and further studies in subjects such as Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, and related commercial disciplines. A Certificate of Course Completion may be awarded by the learning institution to learners who successfully complete the prescribed learning programme.
